I am a Chartered Accountant and former Chartered Tax Advisor starting my career with 9 years experience in Mid Tier and Boutique public accounting practices advising clients on all direct and indirect tax compliance including corporate tax, international tax, structuring, capital gains tax and fringe benefits tax.

in 2014 I made a move into commerce to broaden my financial skills by taking on a Financial Controller and Chief Compliance Officer role.

 

monday enterprises allowed me to continue to utilise and build on my tax skills for a further 5 years complimenting the heavy financial accounting role I currently perform.

In Australia, the designation Chartered Accountant (CA) is earned by satisfying the comprehensive admission requirements of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA). Candidates then complete, the Institute's own post-graduate course, the CA Program, which is one of the most rigorous in the world. 

 

What this means is that Chartered Accountants are at the leading edge of modern business practice and can provide the community with a full range of professional business services.

 

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia is the Australian Professional body of Chartered Accountants the recognised title of accountancy professionals throughout the English speaking world. It has 30,000 members who work in public practice, the business community, academia and government organisations. CAs are among the most highly qualified and respected group of business advisers in Australia.

 

CA's are required to undertake at least 120 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) over a three year period. In the conduct of their duties, all CAs must comply with technical and ethical standards which are set by the Institute.

 

Those members wishing to work as principals in Public Practice must obtain a Certificate of Public Practice by completing the Institute's Public Practice Program. Members holding this certificate must ensure that adequate Quality Control Procedures are in place. You can use a registered tax agent to prepare and lodge your tax return for you.

 

Registered tax agents are the only people allowed to charge a fee to prepare and lodge your tax return. They must be registered with the Tax Practitioners Board and follow strict regulations that ensure they act in a professional manner.

 

Most registered tax agents have special lodgment schedules and can lodge returns for their clients later than the usual 31 October deadline. However, if you did not go to a registered tax agent last year - or you will be going to a different tax agent this year - make sure you see them before 31 October.
